I’m pretty sure Jesus is a morning person
that he wakes up in a good mood
He denies he ever spoke personally to George Bush
Maybe he spoke to Bob Dylan
Jesus wears a bathrobe and reads the obituaries
He has a long braid like Willie Nelson’s
He drinks his tea black
leaves the cap off the toothpaste
and never uses an ATM machine
He’s never won a poetry slam
or been published in the New Yorker
He runs full page ads in the New York Times
and blushes when he’s on the cover
of People Magazine: Sexiest Man Alive
Jesus painted graffiti on the Christiansburg Kmart in 1989
Next to a blue planet in bold black letters
he wrote: ON THE EIGHTH DAY WE PAVED IT
He left it unsigned

Awesome poetic grace and brilliant conjecture on our savior–make him your own! Loved the read. My grandma used to drag me into K-marts when i was a kid–i loved those suckers. Gripping title and great ending–we paved it!
Nice weave of the temporal and the mystical. I think you are right about Jesus being a morning person.
No way is Jesus a morning person, but I like the poem nonetheless.
You’re totally going to hell.
Just kidding! Really enjoyed the poem.

I like that Jesus was misbehaving in 1989, but in one of the most innocent of ways! This is inspiring, I want to do one, too. I will let you know if I do!!
GREAT Poem, Colleen…! I love the image of Jesus in a bathrobe, and in truth, it’s not that far fetched…Many “renderings” of Jesus have him in what could certainly pass for a bathrobe….Not sure about the toothpaste…But…you would know better than me. (lol)
I love this, though it’s yet another reason for me to be ashamed that I just can’t seem to get up before 9. Maybe if i pray…
